Inspired by experience

Even though the market was overfilled with options from various tactical companies, I still struggled to find a single sling option that suited every operational need I faced. I resorted to a makeshift sling using parts from multiple different slings. Upon retiring that sling, I chose not to discard it but instead to rebuild and enhance it, aiming for a cleaner and more user-friendly design.

Some issues I encountered with other sling designs-

  1. Limited quick adjustment length: Operators require a system that allows secure retention against the front or back of the body for climbing or fast-roping yet quickly adjust length to enable shouldering the weapon for shooting, reloading, and switching shoulders. The reverse closed loop sling system that many companies are using today does not allow enough adjustment, about HALF the amount of total length adjustment see photos below. Some instructors also preach the necktie solution (sling only around the back of the neck) This only work for short amounts of time but becomes uncomfortable during multi-hour operations when you add extra weight to your weapon- optics and NVG or Thermal capabilities. This is also a bad position to be in during any type of combative/prisoner handler situation.

  2. Excessive snag hazards. Many of the padded slings had catch points that would snag on parts of my plate carrier at critical moments, which could prove disastrous in Close Quarters Combat situations, so I removed as many catch points as I could in this design.

  3. Broken plastic tri-glides. I've had to replace multiple tri-glides during my career, often resorting to scavenging parts from other equipment while deployed. To address this, I prefer slings with sewn-in attachment equipment, which allows for a much cleaner system with fewer loose ends and duct tape.

The multicam Aird sling is a closed loop tension system used by some companies, the Black Multicam is the standard tightening system.

Same overall length, same tension location

Closed loop 12” overall adjustment.

Standard 24” overall adjustment.

After years of consistent use in every conceivable environment (wet and sandy, dry and dusty, cold and frozen) without maintenance, I have developed a strong trust in these webbing cam locks and their basic components. I have yet to encounter anything that matches the performance and reliability.
